The House on Fog Hill

An illustrated story by Inkwell Tales · Mystery · Manga · 13+ · English

Three friends dare each other into a fog-wrapped house and meet a lonely ghost with one last letter to deliver.

Everyone in the harbour town says the house on Fog Hill is haunted. Milo dares Yuki and Theo to spend five minutes inside. A lantern lights itself, and an old lighthouse keeper's spirit appears on the stairs. Abel isn't scary at all: he has waited fifty years for someone to deliver the letter he never sent to his sister. The friends take it to the blue house by the harbour, and that night the old lighthouse shines again.

Episode 1: The Last Letter

A dare leads three friends into the haunted house, where a lonely ghost asks them for one favour.

Milo dares his friends at the gate of the fog house.

Milo: Five minutes inside. Unless you're scared.

Theo: I'm not scared. My camera is.

The front door creaks open by itself.

CREEEAK...

Yuki: Old hinges. Wind. Nothing else.

Inside, a lantern on the desk lights itself.

Theo: Did that lantern just... light itself?

A ghost appears on the stairs.

Theo: G-G-GHOST!

The ghost asks them not to run.

Abel: Please don't run. No one has visited in fifty years.

Yuki steps forward and asks who he is.

Yuki: Who are you?

Abel: Abel. I kept the lighthouse on this coast for fifty years.

Abel shows them the letter he never sent.

Abel: My last letter. I never sent it to my sister, Maren.

Milo promises to deliver it.

Milo: Then we'll deliver it. Where does she live?

Abel: The blue house by the harbour.

Next morning they hand the letter to Maren's granddaughter.

The next morning, the letter finally arrived.

Yuki: This is from your great-uncle Abel.

That night the old lighthouse shines again.

Abel: Thank you, friends.

Theo: Okay. Maybe ghosts aren't so scary.
